Tempers were fraying towards the end of the first half, with Espanyol coming into the second half with three players on yellow cards. Caicedo, in particular, is one to keep your eye on.

Munir's goal is the difference between the two teams as the second half gets under way, but that strike was all about the through ball from Messi. What a pass it was from the Argentine.

CAICEDO SHOULD HAVE SCORED! The Espanyol striker was clean through on goal, but his chipped finish is pushed over the bar by Ter Stegen - who stood up as long as possible.

This is getting a little unpleasant now. Caicedo stuck an elbow into Ter Stegen as the Barcelona goalkeeper took his kick. The German seems to have loosened a tooth as well, or something.

YELLOW CARD: Felipe Caicedo (Espanyol)

TER STEGEN IS FORCED INTO THE SAVE! Jordan cuts inside and tries to catch out the Barca keeper with a snapshot at the near post, but the German gets down early to stop.

Barcelona have been well on top in this first half. Enrique might have made a number of changes to his starting lineup, but that hasn't done much to dent their supremacy over their rivals.

That was an especially crude challenge from Alvaro. Messi was well past him as he broke forward, but the Espanyol player just cleaned him out. He takes the yellow card, which had been coming.

Is there any way for Espanyol to get a foothold in this match? The tie is now beyond there, but they could still cause some damage on the counter attack. There is still hope for them.

Messi should have had a freekick there! Alvaro leaned into the Barcelona number 10 as he surged through on goal, but the referee shook his head and allowed play to continue.

That goal should do Munir's confidence a world of good. The youngster has impressed in points so far this season, but all that has been missing is a goal haul. And goals equal confidence.

Just before Munir scored the opening goal of the match, Espanyol actually had an opportunity to find the net themselves. Asensio couldn't make the most of a loose pass from Messi.

If this tie wasn't dead before kick-off, it certainly is now. Espanyol's away goal has been wiped off the slate and now they trail 5-1 in this round of 16 Copa Del Rey encounter.
