Real Madrid have one foot in the semi finals of the Copa del Rey. This looked like being a real test for the capital side, with Girona giving it a real go, but in the end the quality of the likes of Benzema, Odriozola and Vinicius proved to be too much for the Catalan visitors to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Benzema has been excellent this evening, as have Vinicius and Odriozola, who made plenty happen in the first half. This has been much better from Real Madrid. Strong.

Vinicius has been a revelation for Real Madrid since coming into the team from Castilla a couple months ago. The Brazilian is the sort of play who just makes things happen.

Vinicius played a fantastic first-time, low cross to the back post where Benzema was waiting for the delivery. The French striker has deserved that goal!

Why was Ramos up from the back? It wasn't a set piece! It was open play! Nobody really cares, though, because not for the first time the Real Madrid captain has come up big!

Vinicius dribbled into the box, played the pass back to Marcelo who sent a wonderful cross into the six yard box. Ramos was up from the back and powers home a header, giving Iraizoz no chance.

Real Madrid are pegging back Girona as they search for a goal to put them back in front. Solari won't be pleased if his side doesn't have a lead to take to Montilivi for the second leg.
