Girona have been tentative in this first half. In truth, their own foray into the Real Madrid half resulted in a goal. They have been tough to break down, though. Solid at the back.

So much of Real Madrid's play is coming down the right side. Odriozola is almost playing as something of a right winger rather than a right back. Think of a right sided Alba.

Sore one! Vazquez is going to need a moment to get back to his feet there. The winger touch a sore one, landing awkwardly on his back as he challenged for a loose ball. He'll be fine.

It's remarkable how in the space of just a few weeks Real Madrid have come to depend on Vinicius. How will Bale force his way back into the team when he returns from injury?

Curled over! That was a good effort from Vinicius, who is looking very sharp. He cuts inside and bends a shot towards the top corner, but the ball flashes just over. Iraizoz wouldn't have got there.

He had Ramos free! That was a chance for Real Madrid to take the lead. Vazquez hared forward, but his cross to his captain was a poor one. He'll be hearing about that at half time.

This is better from Real Madrid. They are causing Girona with their runs from deep, particularly down the wing. It seems that they have identified Garcia as the weak link.

That's where Odriozola lacks experience. He had two options there - 1) take the shot himself or 2) square for Benzema. In the end, he took the ball too close and Iraizoz smothered.

Odriozola causing problems! Another surging run from the young right back, but he takes one touch too many and ends up taking the shot on himself. Iraizoz makes the save.

Benzema... over! Good play from Vinicius down the left creates the shooting opportunity for the French striker, but Benzema leans back and sends his strike high and wide of the target.

Can Solari somehow turn one of Carvajal or Odriozola into a left back? Both are excellent, but play in the same position on the right side of the back. Good options to have.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Real Madrid 1 (17 mins - Lucas Vazquez) Girona 1. Real Madrid are back on level terms! It was great play from Odriozola down the right to stretch the play and create the opportunity. He cut the ball back to Vazquez, who made no mistake in firing a first-team shot into the net.

The Real Madrid players aren't happy with the referee. Ceballos and Vinicius were crunched within seconds of each other, yet the cards stay in the pocket of the man in the middle.

Vinicius dribble! Wonderful play from the Brazilian winger, who nutmegs Alcala, but the move breaks down between Ceballos an Casemiro. At least Vinicius is trying to make something happen.

Marcelo on target! The Real Madrid left back lets rip from about 25 yards out, but his shot is comfortably saved by Iraizoz, who gets down well to push the ball away from goal!
