Mick McCarthy tells us that Browne is on the right because he's played well for Preston and well in training. He's pleased to stop talking about the game and get to playing it.

Pre-match then...
19:29
Of course, these teams played a playoff to qualify for the last World Cup and, after a goalless first leg in Copenhagen, Ireland took the lead in Dublin ... only to lose 5-1, with Christian Eriksen scoring a hat-trick.

Christian Eirksen says he's excited for the game because it means something, and usually qualification is full of games that don't. That's a political problem as well as a footballing problem - there are so many countries now in Europe that it's not really possible to have lots of difficult groups, which is significant - it's not just a question of Uefa expanding the competition to make more money, though it also that. The first Euros I recall, in 1988, featured two groups of four, top two in the semis, final, done. Can anyone recall how Ireland did at those?

And here's what happened when Ireland played New Zealand at the weekend.

Here's what happened the last time these two met.
19:17
if ever there was a team picked to win 1-0, that Ireland team is it.

19:12
Denmark, meanwhile make three changes from the weekend's 6-0 win over Gibraltar. Out go Wass, Skov and Gytkjaer; in come Dalsgaard, Cornelius and Poulsen.

Ireland change formation following a chastening defeat by Swtizerland in their last competitive match. They played 3-5-2 for that one, matching up their opponents - a foolishness, given the quality imbalance between the teams - but are in a 4-5-1 tonight. From that XI, Coleman misses out with suspension and the two strikers are left out, Collins and Connolly. Coming in are Doherty - and really, is weird that he wasn't picked last time, given he's one of few Premier League-level players in the squad - Hourihane and McGoldrick.

Let's have some teams...

This is an absolute whopper! Basically, Ireland need a win to qualify; Denmark need a draw; and whichever doesn't make it will have a shy at a playoff. But who wants that?
