City are making hay down the right, and Ruffels is having a tough first half. Mahrez turns him left and then right now, before unloading a low drive from 15 yards. Archer appears to turn it around the post but a goal kick is given.

Another free-kick to Oxford, who are trying to target Oxford's teenage centre-halves here and put them under pressure. Again the delivery is poor though; it's been frustrating for manager Karl Robinson, because Oxford have had some good set-piece opportunities.
35'
A brilliant turn by Agyei rolls Garcia out of the way and he advances on goal, only to be pulled back by Garcia. Free-kick to Oxford, and Garcia is lucky not to be booked there.

WHAT A CHANCE! Bernardo slides a lovely pass inside Dickie that puts Sterling one on one with Archer. Sterling tries to sit the goalkeeper down and dink the ball into the net, but he doesn't catch it right and the ball clips the side-netting. Oxford are still in the tie, just.
30'
Foden takes on Ruffels down the right now, twisting one way and then the other and into the penalty area. His low shot is scuffed straight at Archer.
29'
City are looking to end the argument here. Sterling stumbles through some challenges on the edge of the area and finds Angelino on the left, but his driven cross can't beat the first man and Oxford clear.
27'
Cancelo releases Mahrez into the penalty area, but he's just offside otherwise he was clean through.
25'
That goal hasn't deflated Oxford, who are still carrying it forward and harrying City in their own half.

GOAL! Oxford United 0 Manchester City 1 (Cancelo 22)
After Oxford's best period of the game, City score! A blistering series of first-time passes in their own half leads to Foden released Cancelo down the right. He charges into the area, and his shot deflects slightly off Moore and flies past Archer to give City the lead.

...and it's boomed over everyone and goes out for a goal-kick. Oxford come straight back though, and the impressive Fosu now wins a corner after a run and cross is diverted behind.
20'
Fosu wins a throw for Oxford deep in City's half, and then a free-kick in the final third and to the left of the area. Brannigan to take...

CHANCE! The first real danger for Oxford. Sterling picks out Mahrez on the right of the area, who fires a dangerous low cross into the six-yard box. From almost underneath his own bar Dickie clears the ball for a corner with Sterling lurking behind him.

City win a corner, that eventually breaks to Foden. He whips a cross in that catches a deflection on the way in, looping dangerously into the Oxford six-yard box until it's cleared to safety.
13'
Some quick rat-a-tat passing but Oxford in midfield suddenly breaks Taylor clear past the City midfield. He tries to lay the ball off to the right for a cross,, but it's a poor pass and Zinchenko sees it out for a goal kick. That was a sniff of an opening there for Oxford.
12'
Rodri fould Baptiste, and gives Oxford the chance to load the City area for a free-kick. It's aimed at Dickie again, but with no real pace or purpose and he can't win the header at the back post.
9'
Foden almost gets in Sterling with a slide rule ball right through the middle of the Oxford defence, but Dickie reads it and intercepts superbly.
8'
A lovely pass from Foden gets Angelino in behind the Oxford defence on the left for a second. He can't quite control it though, and on trying to recover is swiftly tackled and the ball goes back off him for a goal kick.
6'
Sterling takes it, but to the glee of the Oxford fans sends it sailing wildly over the bar.
6'
Sterling is fouled, 25 yards from goal and central. A shooting chance here...
4'
Oxford win the first corner of the night and try to loft it to Moore at the back post, but City clear.

We've just had the first television cutaway to Mikel Arteta on the City bench. Is this his last game before taking over as manager of Arsenal?
