Bale plays a delicious cross into the box with the outside of his left foot but in the end it's too long and drifts over the head of Benzema at the back post.

Almeria produce a nicely worked corner kick, something they've clearly worked on in training, but Aleix's shot flashes just past the post from 16 yards out.

Looking at the replays of the run from Ronaldo, he should've done better with the shot. He had the full goal to pick his spot in.

And now Benzema winds up the shot but Esteban gets his body behind the effort and saves comfortably.

Ronaldo dribbles all the way through the Almeria backline, dancing through challenges and beating about four players, but when he gets clear and takes the shot Esteban guesses the right way and makes the save!

Watching the movement of Real Madrid's front three is fascinating. Benzema, Bale and Ronaldo are all constantly on the move and looking for the ball in different positions. It must be a nightmare to track!

They say Illarramendi is the new Xabi Alonso but the youngster has already made a number of poor passes tonight. He needs to tighten up his game at this level.

Almeria are just starting to settle into this game. Can they take hold of possession a bit better before the break?

Rodri surges through the Real Madrid defence, controlling the ball on th bounce before lashing a half-volleyed shot at goal. However it's straight at Lopez who gathers.

This time it's Bale's turn to wind up a shot but his effort is poorly directed and skids along the turf into the advertising boards behind the Almeria goal.

Benzema and Ronaldo link up through the middle of the pitch before releasing Isco down the left side, but he runs out of pitch in the end and Almeria mop up the danger.

Carvajal stages a great cross from deep into the box, finding Benzema's run across the defender. However he misjudges the header and it goes past the post. Should have done better.

This has actually turned into a very entertaining game. Almeria aren't seeing much of the ball but when they go forward they look like they could score. Great tempo.

Ramos plays a wonderful diagonal pass over the top of the Almeria back four looking for Ronaldo. Esteban has to come off his line once again and he deals well with it, pulling off a diving header to clear.

Suso comes so close to bending a great left-footed shot into the net from the edge of the box but the effort flashes past the post. That would've been a very nice finish. Had Lopez scrambling.

Real Madrid are controlling the game through Isco and Illarramendi. Almeria can't get near the ball when they get into their rythym.

Ronaldo is shooting on sight at the moment. He pulls off the defender drawing the cut back from Benzema but he scuffs his shot and the ball drifts past the target. Good movement, though.

Carvajal breaks down the right wing and squares the ball for Ronaldo, who cuts across the front of goal. However his shot is blocked brilliantly by Trujillo on the slide.

Great save by Diego Lopez! The whistle has actually gone for a fairly soft foul but the Real Madrid keeper pulls off a great stop to prevent Rodri's header from finding the net. He wasn't to know it wouldn't have counted.

Almeria come forward for the first time and Azeez is presented with a good chance for a shot on the edge of the box but his effort is charged down by Pepe.

Almeria have been terrible so far tonight. They actually look like they can't be bothered. That's a dangerous attitude to have against a team like Real Madrid.
