It is interesting that Ancelotti has favoured Silva in the centre of midfield over Illarramendi. The latter has been linked with a move away from Real, and this suggests those rumours could be true.

Real Madrid come into this game on the back of a 2-0 win over Schalke in the Champions League during the week, but Ancelotti's side are still someway short of their best at the moment.

The big team news for Real Madrid is that Silva is handed his first start as a Real Madrid player in La Liga, starting in the centre of midfield. Of course, he joined in the January window.

This is a big chance for Real Madrid to build a lead at the top of the Spanish league table. Barcelona lost at home to Malaga yesterday, meaning that Real Madrid can move four points clear.
