GOAL! United 2-0 Hull (Rooney) - A Carrick range-finder pass arcs into the box. Van Persie and Co. aren't able to convert it however, and instead the Dutchman lays it back to Rooney who fires a shot into the bottom corner of McGregor's net. Hull's defence could have done more to clear the danger and close down the angles.

Juan Mata has been much improved since Di Maria's departure. The Spaniard now looks far more involved between attack and midfield. Hull aren't coping well with his passing at present.

Van Persie gets another chance in the box on his right foot, but he shoots straight at McGregor with a relatively weak attempt. The opportunity was crafted by a lovely team move from his colleagues. He must find his instinct in front of goal soon especially if such high quality chances continue to come to him.

HULL SUBSTITUTION: Hatem Ben Arfa is dragged off for Sone Aluko. Steve Bruce does not look happy with the Frenchman over his failure to track his runner and ultimately cause a freekick on the outskirts of the Hull box. The visitors clearly believe workrate will be key today, and having already gone 1-0 down they can't afford any passengers.

Fellaini holds off two men on the edge of the Hull box after a Carrick through ball. After shrugging Dawson to the floor he accidently steps backwards onto the defender. The referee doesn't show any cards but it is a foul.

United win a freekick after Ben Arfa fails to track his runner, causing Davies to go drastic to stop Valencia. It's from a dangerous position, just outside the right hand corner of the box. Mata and Young stand over it and the Spaniard takes it. Dawson clears it out but only to Mata, who scampers down the side of the box to send in another ball. It gets to Smalling who almost gets lucky again.

Robin van Persie tries to peel off from the Hull defence and head out to the left wing, but his run is just off and the flag is raised. There may be calls to replace the Dutchman in the starting XI at present, but given the injuries that keep on coming for United, there may not be any replacements to put in his place at this rate.

Mata catches Elmohamady in the right-hand side of the Hull box after swooping in to try and poach a shot behind Rooney in the box. The referee blows up for a foul and Hull get a freekick from insides their own area.
28'
Wayne Rooney is now hobbling. Could this be another injury for Louis van Gaal to deal with in the first half? United's players look as if they're made of glass at present.

United win another corner as Valencia plays the ball off Robertson. Van Persie steps up to take once more. Rooney and Fellaini drop back to the far post to wait for his delivery. However, the danger is realised by their markers and the ball is cleared away.
24'
Curtis Davies heads behind for a corner after Ander Herrera takes a shot from outside the Hull box. It looked as though it would have been on target had the ball not been intercepted.
23'
Mata plays through a pass for Rooney to get on the end of, but the Englishman just isn't quite quick enough to take advantage of the chance. With Di Maria coming off, Mata now looks to be getting forward more to take the initiative.

Hull take the freekick, which is catapulted into the middle of the box. It's cleared by the defenders, but the ball falls to Dawson to the left, inside the box. The centre-back attempts an ambitious, driving shot, which arcs down to threaten the far post. However, David De Gea is ready and waiting to catch.
19'
Mata is played in and immediately sends a weak pass over to Curtis Davies, who plays it forward. It's a mistake that eventually leads to a foul and free kick in favour of Hull as the hosts try to take back the ball up in their own half.
18'
United are ahead but Hull may feel disappointed in themeselves having gone behind. The hosts are playing with makeshift wingbacks, have lost Di Maria through injury and speaking of missing players, Juan Mata hasn't been in the game yet at all so far. The Spaniard appears to be dropping back at times when his teammates push forward as if he doesn't want the ball.

GOAL! United 1-0 Hull (Smalling) - A scramble in front of goal sees McGregor and his defenders battling with Fellaini and Smalling. They manage to block the first couple of attempts, but the third header goes over the line after McGregor gets a hand to it. It could even be an own goal.

UNITED SUBSTITUTION: Angel Di Maria comes off for Ander Herrera. Including Wilson's knock before the game, that makes it 42 injuries for Manchester United this season, and it's only November.
12'
Ander Herrera is being readied on the sidelines. It looks like Di Maria's game is coming to an end with only 12 minutes played here at Old Trafford. Hull City can take heart from the fact that the player who has recorded the most assists in Europe's top five leagues is having to leave the pitch.
10'
Di Maria has pulled up holding his right hamstring. Given the state of their squad at present, he will likely be coming off as a precaution if nothing else. It would be a big blow for United if he did have to end his game here however.
9'
The final third opens up for Van Persie but the striker just doesn't seem to have the pace to take in and threaten McGregor in the Hull goal. He looked hesistant as if he wasn't quite in the moment.
8'
Today is a landmark for Hull City manager Steve Bruce, who takes charge of his 700th game today after having worked at a number of clubs including Wigan, Birmingham and Sunderland previously.
