Imbula's clipped pass over the top is too heavy for Pieters. The Potters can't seem to find their mojo today.

Southampton have dropped slightly deeper since the goal, flooding that space that Shaqiri and Afellay like to operate in.

Shaqiri looks for Arnautovic, but his clipped cross is slightly too high and runs away for a goal-kick.

Stoke are starting to string a few passes together and are taking the sting out of this strong Southampton start.

The Southampton full-back is going to be fine to continue.

Martina rolls around on the floor hurt after slipping, but there was no foul and no reason to stop the play so the referee allows play to continue.

The Britannia is getting restless. This lack of intensity is not what they've grown accustomed to from their side. The game could be out of sight by half-time if they don't sharpen up soon.

A Southampton corner very nearly sneaks in, but Butland breathes a sigh of relief as it grazes the upright on its way wide.

Long's pace helps him latch on to a through-ball, but his shot from an angle is well saved by Butland.

Southampton richly deserve their lead. They've been the livelier of the two teams, finding space out wide and keeping Stoke's talented attacking quartet pretty quiet so far.

GOOOAAALLL!!! Pelle gets on the end of the corner and flicks a header past Butland to open the scoring for Southampton. That's the striker's first goal in 13 league games.

Long's cross from the left is flicked goalwards by Pelle and brilliantly tipped over the bar by Butland.

Arnautovic sees a close-range effort blocked after a headed clearance broke kindly for him. That was the Potters' first meaningful attack of the game, but they found a concerning amount of space (*concerning from a Southampton perspective at least).

Stoke are distinctly second best in these opening minutes, with the energy of Long causing real problems for their full-backs. The Irish international doesn't score as many goals as you'd expect from a forward, but the industry that he brings makes him a valuable member of the side nonetheless.

A long ball over the top catches Stoke out (who'd have thought that would even be possible a couple of years ago). Shawcross races across to nick the ball away from Shane Long, but the returning centre-back was left badly exposed there and screams at his teammates to switch on.

Imbula glides forward from deep midfield - as is his want - but he drags his shot slightly and Forster watches it slide wide.
