The whistle goes to bring a superb first half to a close. It may be goalless, but the standard and pace of the game has been incredible and both managers will be happy enough with how their team have played.

Origi gets in down the right and curls in a lovely cross towards Coutinho, but last-man Walker keeps his composure and flicks a clearance away.

The first half of Klopp's Premier League life will have told him that all of the stereotypes about the English game are true. It's end-to-end, high tempo and with a notable lack of quality on the ball... yet nevertheless it's still relentlessly entertaining.

Coutinho has a pop from range, but it's easy for Lloris in the Spurs goal.

N'Jie cuts in from the left and fizzes a curling shot just over the bar. The sub has been extremely lively since coming on, with his pace really troubling Liverpool's right-hand side.

Eriksen has been hugely impressive in the last quarter of an hour for Spurs, finding space in a game where there really is none and bringing his team-mates into play with a delightful range of flicks and tricks.

Kane is denied by Mignolet when he really he should have scored and then Sakho clears a goal-bound Alli shot on the follow-up. Tottenham are knocking on the door with increasing regularity, but it's still 0-0.

Milner catches Rose late with a challenge and earns himself the booking that he's been trying to get for the last 34 minutes.

There's barely time for the players to breathe at White Hart Lane, such is the ridiculous pace of the game. Liverpool are understandably busting a gut to impress their new boss, but the hosts are giving as good as they get.

An Eriksen shots is deflected behind for a corner, but Vertonghen's header from the resulting set-piece balloons over the bar.

Spurs have really woken up and are all over Liverpool in midfield. Kane is linking the play nicely in attack and the support forwards are pressing with the sort of intensity that the visitors were showing earlier on.

Mignolet pulls off a wonder-save to deny N'Jie. More Spurs pressing wins the ball back in a dangerous area and Kane unselfishly feeds the French youngster, who curls a lovely shot towards the far corner with the outside of his boot. However, Mignolet is equal to it with one of his best saves in a Liverpool shirt.

Kane puts Mignolet under pressure and forces the goalkeeper to slice his clearing kick out for a throw-in. That was impressive pressing by Tottenham. Anything you can do...

The intensity of Liverpool's play has been impressive, but there's not been much in the way of attacking threat. Crosses into the box from set-pieces have been the only thing that has really troubled the Spurs back-four and Origi will probably still be wondering how he didn't score.

N'Jie is a raw talent but has enough of a spark to suggest that he could make a good impression at Spurs. The striker tries to create room for a shot, but is crowded out by the covering Liverpool midfield.
