Evening all It's that time of the year again: Christmas pub clowns, enforced happiness and Arsenal set fair to make a mess of things. Their November was, as so often is, wretched, capped by the news that Santi Cazorla will miss three months. They are, as they say, 'in a bad several moments.' And so are West Ham. Fourth from bottom of the league, in that hideous stadium, and hot on the heels of that miserable midweek display. So, we're all set for exhibition unhappiness - lucky us!

Bit of possession from West Ham, triangulating down the left, but then the ball finds Masuaku, who curls a cross into Cech's arms.

Coquelin fouls someone, and is booked; it's alright pal, we've noticed you.

It's almost as though West Ham have decided not the defend their right-hand side. Again, Arsenal move down it, finding Sanchez, and he goes for an improbably curler with plenty of men expecting something proper.

Also, West Ham can't pay their three at the back. But might they have rehearsed something else?

I suppose we could say Bilic got more out of them than was really there last season; but that's his job. There's no excuse for the lack of intensity, though.
27'
There is nothing West Ham have got that will get them back into this.

It's a funny one, that - it was coming, because West Ham are awful, and yet it wasn't coming, because Arsenal had created nothing.

GOAL! West Ham 0-1 Arsenal (Ozil) Dearie bubbles! Ogbonna gives the ball away outside his own box, picking out Sanchez, and he bursts onto it - of course he does - beating Reid, who comes across, and squaring to Ozil who taps in.

Good stat: West Ham have lost seven times in the league this season; they lost eight in all of last season.

Oxlade-Chamberlain finds apace down the right ... and picks out the nearest defender. Of course he does. Is there a more completely aggravating player in the league than him? All the ability, not thick, and yet he plays like Pike on Mogadon.

West Ham have been nonsense these first few minutes, but Arsenal have created more or less nothing. I mean, they've had some nice situations, but no chances.
19'
Payet, on halfway, releases Lanzini with a low, curving pass the wrong side of Koscielny. He runs at goal, but with men to hsi right, decides to hang onto it, and is eventually shown away from goal by Mustafi. Arsenal waste the eventuating corner, then another.

Arsenal win a corner down the right, Mustafi and Koscielny go forward. And the former is there at the near post ... gets the flick-on ... and Sanchez and Oxlade-Chamberlain both miss it at the far post. That they were even close tells you all you need to know about Westairmfrewnfrew.

Payet moves to the right, but Obiang, looking for him, flights a pass into touch. West Ham are abject, I'm afraid.

West Ham need to sort out that left-hand side. They've changed formation, but still need to defend.

Huge chance for Arsenal, Monreal - again - nashing down the left with nary a challenge, and cutting back for Sanchez ... but Ogbonna does brilliantly to divert clear. Arsenal, though, keep at it, and soon Monreal is there again, from Ozil's delicious pass ... but Reid is there to hump clear.

Payet, infield, floats a lovely ball from centre to right, looking for Fernandes. But Monreal does excellently to stretch are flick it away.

Arsene Wenger looks warmer than you. This match is "looks very low-key" say the folks tasked with selling it to us. And if they're saying that, imagine how it actually is.
