Uruguay have been compared to Atletico Madrid countless times during this World Cup and it's easy to see the similarities. Their aim is clearly to nick a goal and then to defend for all their worth to see the game out.
It's worked so well for Diego Simeone over the years, so why not Uruguay?

You have to admire Cavani who continues to fulfil his defensive duties tirelessly, winning the ball from Mario this time.

Guedes and Godin clash heads as they compete for a high ball into the Uruguay penalty area. You don't need me to tell you that the Uruguay defender won the aerial battle.
37'
Uruguay have 10 players behind the ball, creating a strong defensive wall which even the might of Ronaldo will struggle to breach.

Bernardo Silva is slightly late on Cavani who goes down and looks in some pain, but after receiving the attention he needs the PSG forward is back to his feet.

The deadly duo... and the stats speak for themselves.

Up steps Ronaldo... but he smashes his effort straight into the wall, unable to repeat the heroic free-kick he produced against Spain 15 days ago.

Guedes is fouled by Bentacur right on the edge of the penalty area and Portugal have a free-kick in Ronaldo territory. The Uruguay players swarm over the referee in protest, but I'm not sure what there is to complain about - it was a clear foul.
29'
Cavani is dropping into defence for his team and successfully challenges Ronaldo to win possession back for Uruguay.

Caceres with a long throw-in, which is as good as a corner, but Fonte clears his lines for Portugal.

Carvalho hangs his cross into a crowded penalty area but it's over the head of everyone, including Fonte who climbed highest.

Off Bernardo Silva goes on a lung-busting run, only to be fouled by Godin. Portugal have a free-kick on the right channel and this is dangerous.

Up steps Suarez who drills the free-kick low and hard, it's creeping into the bottom corner but Patricio, at full-stretch, dives across to push the ball away from his goal.
Suarez tried a similar effort to the free-kick he scored against Russia - and almost pulled it off again.

Just when we are on the subject of Suarez, the Barcelona forward drives forward through central midfield, only to be hauled down by Fonte. Uruguay have a free-kick, 25 yards out and guess who is over it...?
20'
Well put, Tom. Suarez and Cavani sure do look like they are in the mood this evening.
19'
A cross is delivered into the Uruguay penalty box where Ronaldo is ready to pounce but Jimenez is well positioned to intervene and clear with his head.
17'
Portugal work the ball wide to Pereira who delivers a low cross to the near post but it's too close to Muslera who collects with ease.

Caceras is desperate to meet a cross at the near post but is beaten to the ball by Fonte. He is slightly late and leaves one on the Portugal defender.

Cavani steals possession in midfield, immediately threading a through-pass to Suarez. The Barcelona forward has the ball on the edge of the box but he has little support and he can only force a corner.
