Cavani steals possession in midfield, immediately threading a through-pass to Suarez. The Barcelona forward has the ball on the edge of the box but he has little support and he can only force a corner.
12'
Ronaldo tucks inside to create space for a shot but who else but Godin charges him down quickly to make the block. And now play is stopped so that Torreira can receive some treatment.

WIDE!
Half a chance for Portugal now. Bernardo Silva's deep cross finds Fonte who can only head across the face of goal and none of his team mates can get on the end of it.
8'
In fact, Cavani may have used his nose to guide the ball into the back of the net. Whatever, Uruguay lead and with such a tight defence they will be difficult to beat now.

GOAAALLLLLLL! Uruguay 1-0 Portugal!
Wow, this World Cup just keeps getting better!
Uruguay's deadly duo - Cavani and Suarez - combine to lethal effect! Cavani switches the play with a beautiful diagonal pass, which Suarez takes down. The PSG forward doesn't sit back to admire his pass, instead sprinting to the back post to head in Suarez's cross.

SHOT!
It's a venomous effort from Ronaldo 25 yards out but it's comfortable enough for Muslera who has still yet to concede in this World Cup.
5'
Ronaldo leads a Portugal counter-attack but is the victim of a professional foul.
4'
All five of Uruguay's goals in the group stages came from set-pieces and now they win their first corner of the match.
As you would expect, there is plenty of pushing and shoving in the penalty area as the delivery is made but Portugal clear their lines.
3'
OVER!
The first chance of the evening falls the way of Portugal. Mario gets to the by-line and lifts a cross to Bernardo Silva who can only power his header over the bar.
2'
It will be an interesting battle between Pepe and Cavani this evening. The two come up against each other for the first time, with the Uruguay forward fouling his marker.

KICK-OFF!
And off we go! Who will advance in the World Cup to play France in the quarter-final? Uruguay or Portugal...?
18:55
And it's time for the national anthems, with Uruguay up first.
18:50
It was goal-galore in today's earlier match but I sense this encounter may be slightly more cagey. Uruguay and Portugal can both defend quite well and I'm predicting a moment of magic from one of Suarez, Cavani or Ronaldo to win the contest.

Gary Neville, on ITV duty, said he 'tolerated' Ronaldo at Man United in his early years, describing him as 'frustrating' as a teenager. But through the years, he grew into an 'exceptional' player.

We have already seen Kylian Mbappe almost single-handedly drag France through to the last eight, can Ronaldo inspire Portugal to victory this evening?
The Real Madrid star hit a hat-trick against Spain on this ground earlier in the tournament, a match described as the game of the tournament.

MATCH STAT
This will be the third encounter between Uruguay and Portugal and their first at the World Cup. They haven't faced each other since July 1972 when they drew 1-1 at Rio de Janeiro's Maracanã stadium. Portugal are so far unbeaten in their two previous meetings (W1 D1).

Our very own Ben Snowball and Kevin Coulson are predicting Uruguay to sneak past Portugal this evening, but who do they think is going to win it all? Find out by watching their short but brilliant video below.
18:35
But can they outscore Ronaldo, who has four goals to his name at this World Cup? It’s going to be a difficult task, admits Tabarez.
“Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the best strikers in the world," Tabarez said. "He has a great potential obviously and in planning the match, especially focusing on the opponent and considering the level that every player has ... what Ronaldo has on top of the qualities is that he's the leader of that team.
"That is an additional factor. There is not a single player that can contain him there. Not just [Diego] Godin. We will have to work collectively in order to try and contain him or in order to try and limit the effect he can have."

Luis Suarez has netted twice in this year’s finals already and looks to be hitting form at just the right time, after a rather indifferent season with Barcelona. Edinson Cavani, too, got on the score-sheet in Uruguay’s 3-0 victory over Russia, and the deadly duo should cause Portugal’s defence all kinds of problems.

I would sign this in a heart-beat...

Uruguay’s route to the last 16 has been much more straight forward - much less dramatic than Portugal’s. Wins over Egypt, Saudi Arabia and hosts Russia have almost gone unnoticed and Óscar Tabárez’s side have progressed without even conceding a goal, thanks to the simply brilliant Diego Godin, who has probably been the player of the tournament thus far.
