Later today, the US take on Serbia in the gold medal game for the Basketball. The US are heavy favourites today, obviously, but Serbia pushed them almost to overtime in the preliminaries.

Brendan Foster has said this on the BBC, about the marathon conditions today:
"The water has made cornering quite difficult here. That was a bit revealing.
"It could come into play more later on when the corners become a little tighter.
"I hope we don't see people falling, this is the real test of pure distance running."

The marathon is about to get underway. It's overcast and raining today, so a little cooler for the athletes. They'll be grateful for that respite, even if it ends up being temporary.

Britain are second in the medal table at the moment. It certainly puts 'Great' into 'Great Britain', though Britain's awful imperial history probably takes it back out again.

England's new manager, Samuel Allardyce, has suggested Great Britain might return to the Olympics football tournament in future:
"It is a fantastic venue once every four years and to turn it down is a great shame.
"It's something we may look at in the future and try to compete in.
"When you see the delight on Justin Rose's face after winning the gold medal in golf it shows what it all means."

Martyn Rooney, along with Nigel Levin, Delano Williams and Matthew Hudson-Smith were disqualified from the 4x400m relay, and Rooney is unimpressed. Hudson-Smith was ruled to have placed his foot incorrectly, outside the takeover zone. Replays, however, were inconclusive, and Rooney is miffed:
"It's a track judge's opinion," said Rooney. "Unfortunately, there wasn't a Hawk-Eye on the line.
"In other sports, like tennis and football, they have Hawk-Eeye. We've basically got a track judge who has decided that that's what he has seen and there's no conclusive evidence to prove it either way.
"I've just seen it now and I'm even angrier. Matt has been very badly treated."
