Martyn Rooney, along with Nigel Levin, Delano Williams and Matthew Hudson-Smith were disqualified from the 4x400m relay, and Rooney is unimpressed. Hudson-Smith was ruled to have placed his foot incorrectly, outside the takeover zone. Replays, however, were inconclusive, and Rooney is miffed:
"It's a track judge's opinion," said Rooney. "Unfortunately, there wasn't a Hawk-Eye on the line.
"In other sports, like tennis and football, they have Hawk-Eeye. We've basically got a track judge who has decided that that's what he has seen and there's no conclusive evidence to prove it either way.
"I've just seen it now and I'm even angrier. Matt has been very badly treated."

A dramatic finale in the men's football, as Neymar fired Brazil to victory over Germany in an impressive display by the striker.

Caster Semenya triumphed in the 800m last night, leading Paula Radcliffe and Lynsey Sharp to come out with some seriously sour, quite unpleasant remarks about her credibility as an athlete. It's worth remembering that Sharp would have won nothing even if Semenya wasn't there. Semenya, on the other hand, was as dignified as ever.

Let's catch up with the events from last night. Mo Farah has his fourth Olympic gold medal, after a brilliant performance in the 5000m. His achievement, at 33, is probably his last great win in his career, but it was by no means easy for him.
