TSONGA 6-7(4) 6-4 6-7(4) 6-3 3-6 FEDERER - All over as Federer smashes home from the forecourt - the fans rise as one to applaud this contest.
-
Not a bad start as he creams a forehand winner into the corner, but the Frenchman mis-hits into the net as Federer comes forward on a mis-hit approach. There was a chance there for Tsonga. He goes 15-30 up but a big serve brings Fed level... and a save from behind the baseline drops just wide to give Federer match point number five. The first on his own serve.
-
TSONGA 6-7(4) 6-4 6-7(4) 6-3 3-5 FEDERER - Tsonga's 20th ace of the match (against six) puts him advantage up and Fed cannot return his following first serve to stay in this match! He must break now though.
-
A fourth match point for Federer goes begging as he sends a backhand into the net. That shot has let both players down somewhat in this set, but Tsonga more than Federer.
-
Tsonga goes advantage up twice, with Federer clawing him back to deuce as wife Mirka holds her head in her hands.
-
Tsonga saves it in another breathtaking exchange which sees him seal the crucial point with a volley at full stretch.
-
An incredible rally as Federer sends Tsonga scurrying behind the baseline, rescuing drives... Federer looks for a lob, with Tsonga's backhand smash keeping the ball in play... eventually a third match point is earned as the ball drops long.
-
Tsonga fires an ace up the middle for 15-15 but whips a forehand into the net from the tramline... and Federer then earns two match points! One is saved with a long return - Federer challenged the first serve - and the second when the Swiss returns into the net.
-
TSONGA 6-7(4) 6-4 6-7(4) 6-3 2-5 FEDERER - Federer using all his nous to play Tsonga around the court, finishing with a gentle volley to the sideline. /// ‏@wudder: "What do you 2 mean Tsonga never playing better? To me Wimby was even better where he left Roger powerless in his comeback!" Absolutely - I just said they were both playing at their peak, not that they have never played better tennis...
-
TSONGA 6-7(4) 6-4 6-7(4) 6-3 2-4 FEDERER - Tsonga drives a backhand at Federer, who is waiting at the net, but the Swiss knows to leave it to drop long. Tsonga wins a point for 15-30 but Federer has two double break points when a jaw-dropping backhand drop clips the netcord as it ghosts over and drops on the sideline. He somehow hits out with the court at his mercy on the forehand - and Tsonga steps up his game to hold!
-
TSONGA 6-7(4) 6-4 6-7(4) 6-3 1-4 FEDERER - Overhead volley to take the first point of his service game and he turns Tsonga around with his next winner. Very long from Federer on the forehand but a serve and volley takes him to the brink of the game. He hits another into the net, but he seals the hold for a three-game lead - still just a break though.

TSONGA 6-7(4) 6-4 6-7(4) 6-3 1-3 FEDERER - BREAK - Tsonga loses the first two points on his backhand but pulls one back on that same shot. Another long backhand gives Federer two break points - pointless challenge from Tsonga, it was well out. And another shocking backhand into the net gives Fed the break!
-
TSONGA 6-7(4) 6-4 6-7(4) 6-3 1-2 FEDERER - Set going very much with serve. Total points won: 139-136 in favour of Tsonga.
-
Andy Murray awaits the winner here - and the Scot will be more than happy to see this match go to five sets. He'll be praying for a 22-20 scoreline in games, or some such... no fifth-set tie-break in Melbourne, of course.
-
TSONGA 6-7(4) 6-4 6-7(4) 6-3 1-1 FEDERER - The Swiss 15-30 up. Tsonga serves his way to 40-30 before Federer takes us to deuce - then two aces level things up.
-
TSONGA 6-7(4) 6-4 6-7(4) 6-3 0-1 FEDERER - Federer keeps calm to open the decider with a hold.
