TSONGA 6-7(4) 6-4 5-5 FEDERER - Anther love service game for Tsonga as Federer massively mis-hits a backhand in mid-court. He is looking frustrated when returning.

TSONGA 6-7(4) 6-4 4-5 FEDERER - Backhand volley at the net to start from Federer, who - after two more in this hold - has been successful on 21 of 27 net approaches. Surprised he's had that many... he seems to be recognising that he is going to need something special to win this one. Am I right?
-
TSONGA 6-7(4) 6-4 4-4 FEDERER - Blink and you'll miss it - love game from Tsonga. Extremely strong on serve.

-
TSONGA 6-7(4) 6-4 3-4 FEDERER - A sublime backhand up the line from Federer and ace - his first of the set, and fifth overall - put Federer within a point of the game and he holds to love at the net on the following point.
-
TSONGA 6-7(4) 6-4 3-3 FEDERER - Tsonga draws level again with a brilliant cross-court forehand in a hold which contains a fair bit of rallying.
-
TSONGA 6-7(4) 6-4 2-3 FEDERER - Lovely cut drop shot from Federer to move 30-0 up and he relies on that dangerous - and brave - second serve to hold to love.
-
TSONGA 6-7(4) 6-4 2-2 FEDERER - Federer's accuracy again lets him down at the start of this game but he moves ahead with a net approach. Tsonga serves his way to 40-30 but Fed dips a passing shot across court for deuce. A forehand right on the sideline gives Tsonga advantage, wasted as he looks for another up the line... but he eventually closes out the hold.

Earlier, Andy Murray ruthlessly dismissed unseeded Frenchman Jeremy Chardy 6-4 6-1 6-2 to reach the Australian Open semi-finals for the fourth year in a row.

TSONGA 6-7(4) 6-4 1-2 FEDERER - BREAK - Tsonga challenges what turns out to be a long stroke from Federer to earn break point - then Federer swipes wide as his rival breaks back!

TSONGA 6-7(4) 6-4 0-2 FEDERER - BREAK - Unforced errors number 30 and 31 from Tsonga see Federer 0-30 ahead. A 134mph serve then some quite brilliant baseline tennis in the rally of the match sees Tsonga level. Federer earns a break point and converts it by thumping a backhand at Tsonga at the net.
-
TSONGA 6-7(4) 6-4 0-1 FEDERER - Strong hold from Federer, who is not attacking the net as often as perhaps he should. Not that I should be telling Roger Federer how to play tennis.

TSONGA 6-7(4) 6-4 FEDERER - SET - Massive 135mph ace to start. Tsonga then closes off the court and Federer sends a pass up the line which just lands long. Three set points follow as Federer hits into the net... the first chance, a pass, is long - but Federer returns into the base of the net to see Tsonga claim the set.
-
TSONGA 6-7(4) 5-4 FEDERER - Excellent pass from Tsonga for 15-15 as Federer looked to have sealed the point at the net. The latter's 21st unforced error places him precariously at 15-30 but a mis-hit pulls him level. And Federer closes out the hold with relief. However he must break now or lose the set - he has not lost one yet in Melbourne, winning all 13.

TSONGA 6-7(4) 5-3 FEDERER - Federer slips - as Tsonga has done on a few occasions - and he has utterly lost his accuracy from the baseline. Tsonga one game from levelling the match at one set all. /// @SerPeker: "fed's improving first serve. both sides aren't returning very well today. and i admit i am at work following the match:)" Come on, tennis fans. Have your say on this fascinating encounter!

TSONGA 6-7(4) 4-3 FEDERER - BREAK - And just as I type that... into the net from Federer for 15-30. Tsonga then screams 'Allez!' as he crashes a forehand into the net to bring the Swiss level. Federer is extremely unlucky to see a forehand strike the netcord and fly long then he hits wide to put Tsonga a break up!
-
TSONGA 6-7(4) 3-3 FEDERER - Huge ace from Federer and this set is simply going with serve at the moment. Not a patch on the first stanza at present.
-
TSONGA 6-7(4) 2-3 FEDERER - Federer at the net to tap down for 15-15 as Tsonga scurries about saving everything that comes at him. Two wide strokes from Tsonga though and Federer is back ahead.
-
TSONGA 6-7(4) 2-2 FEDERER - Bang, bang, bang, bang. Tsonga back level in double-quick time.
