MEDVEDEV 6-7 0-1 AUGER-ALIASSIME
Medvedev is a bit out of sorts right now. He gets passed at the net and then double faults for a fourth time to fall 0-30 behind. A couple of aces help the Russian get back into the game but he can’t get through it as he gets pushed to deuce on three occasions.

MEDVEDEV *6-7 0-1 AUGER-ALIASSIME
Tim Henman says Medvedev will be hoping to get more balls to the backhand side of Auger-Aliassime, who has been playing nearly everything he can on his forehand. Auger-Aliassime serve volleys and then hits an ace to close out a comfortable hold.
09:51
That was a cracking first set with Auger-Aliassime playing at a very high level. If he can keep this up then Medvedev will have a tough battle on his hands.

MEDVEDEV 6-7* AUGER-ALIASSIME
Another superb point, with Medvedev having to do so much defensive work to stay in the rally before Auger-Aliassime nets a forehand from the baseline. That gets it back on serve, but Medvedev then double faults again for 3-5. A great return from Auger-Aliassime gives him three set points. Medvedev saves one but then goes long and it's the ninth seed who takes the set.

MEDVEDEV 6-6 AUGER-ALIASSIME
The tiebreak goes on serve until Medvedev throws in a double fault. Auger-Aliassime follows up with a forehand winner to take a 4-2 lead into the change of ends.
09:35
MEDVEDEV *6-6 AUGER-ALIASSIME
So sloppy from Auger-Aliassime. Three unforced forehand errors in a row to give Medvedev three break points. A big forehand saves the first but another unforced error follows and the break is handed straight back. Into a tiebreak we go.
09:29
MEDVEDEV 5-6* AUGER-ALIASSIME
Another chance for Auger-Aliassime at 15-30 as Medvedev nets with a forehand down the line. Auger-Aliassime hits the net cord and the ball nearly drops in, but just goes wide. The Canadian then steps up with his forehand, firing one down the line and earning himself the first break point of the match. But Medvedev saves in superb style with a rifled backhand winner after a lengthy rally. Auger-Aliassime dominates the next point but Medvedev shows great defence to win the point. However, Auger-Aliassime fashions another break point and Medvedev double faults. What a game from the Canadian.
09:23
MEDVEDEV *5-5 AUGER-ALIASSIME
Positive signs for Auger-Aliassime as he wins a backhand battle to get to 30-0. It was expected before the match that the backhand would be a weakness for the Canadian but so far it is holding up. An ace to finish a love hold.
09:19
MEDVEDEV 5-4* AUGER-ALIASSIME
Stunning 20-shot point to start the game. Auger-Aliassime plays a drop shot, Medvedev gets there and flicks it short, Auger-Aliassime chases it down and then volleys away the return on the stretch. Auger-Aliassime has an opening at 15-30 but misses two forehands in a row. Medvedev then closes out the trickiest game so far by getting into the net and forcing a backhand error.
09:15
MEDVEDEV *4-4 AUGER-ALIASSIME
The serving continues to be impressive on both sides of the court as Auger-Aliassime drops just one point in the game. Can he keep this up for the next few hours?
09:12
MEDVEDEV 4-3* AUGER-ALIASSIME
Medvedev rattles through another service game, helped by his fifth ace of the match. The world No 2 is getting 70 per cent of his first serves in and winning 86 per cent of the points on his first serve.

MEDVEDEV *3-3 AUGER-ALIASSIME
It's Auger-Aliassime's forehand doing almost all the work for him in rallies. His serve is firing too, he's only missed three first serves so far and he secures a hold to get back on level terms.
09:03
MEDVEDEV 3-2* AUGER-ALIASSIME
Auger-Aliassime passes Medvedev at the net, but that's the only point of the game he wins. Another solid service game from the world No 2, who looks typically unflustered by proceedings.
08:59
MEDVEDEV *2-2 AUGER-ALIASSIME
Auger-Aliassime falls 15-30 behind after an unforced error and then a double fault. But he plays a brilliant point on his forehand, finished off with a winner down the line, to get to 30-30, and takes the next two points to hold.
08:54
MEDVEDEV 2-1* AUGER-ALIASSIME
Another confident hold from Medvedev, helped by two more aces. Looks like it could be tough for Auger-Aliassime to make many inroads against the serve.
08:50
MEDVEDEV *1-1 AUGER-ALIASSIME
Auger-Aliassume follows suit as he bangs down two aces to start his first service game. Medvedev wins the next point but a couple more big serves secure the game for the Canadian.
08:47
MEDVEDEV 1-0* AUGER-ALIASSIME
Ace. Ace. Forehand winner. Confident start from Medvedev as he holds to love.
08:42
Auger-Aliassime won the coin toss and it will be Medvedev to serve first.
08:39
The players are out on Rod Laver Arena.

Mats Wilander: “I really highlight the cross-court duel between the two backhands. Perhaps the best double-handed backhand in the game from Medvedev against Auger Aliassime who has a serious technical weakness, with the shot being way too close to the body. Medvedev is so consistent. Felix will have to serve from another planet.”
