And immediately, Spurs get it forward, Moura picking up a weak defensive header and finds Llorente, who nicks it over Blind but then has to wait while the ball drops; it ends up with Alli, whose shot is blocked by De Ligt.

Looking again at that Vertonghen incident, they really shouldn't have sent him back on. It seems like he vomited before his legs gave out, and that really is a very dangerous situation for a player to be put in. Instead of asking them if they're good to go - they'll always say yes - an independent doctor should take a view and manager's should be allowed a sub that might be temporary.

An excellent half for Ajax, who are too mobile, too skilful and too clever for Spurs. But their defence doesn't look comfortable under the high ball, and Spurs have players who can both deliver and attack those. The second half should be decent.

We've seen how Spurs have to play here - long balls into Lorente, who chests one down for Alli. He gives back and it goes back to Sissoko, he smashes a slice that flies a foot wide.

Spurs have been much better these last few minutes and win a free-kick 40 yards out. Trippier curls it behind the highest line of all-time and Alderweireld is there, heading only just over the bar - but from a fair way out.

This is nice, the ball bouncing about the edge of the Ajax box, and Alli heels a clever reverse-pass into space, but Eriksen can't make anything of it.

Sissoko moves the ball over to Rose, but before he can think about doing anything, Ziyech and Veltman are across.

When Veltman made that challenge, a Spurs fan made the VAR signal. Surely anyone who thought this narishkeit a good idea has now re-evaluated.

Moura wriggles towards the box, turning De Ligt the wrong way, but Veltman is there to knock the ball behind - that's an excellent tackle, and not close to the penalty requested by the crowd.

Llorente wins a flick off a goalkick and Moura screeches onto it! De Ligt just about stays with him, so that when the shot comes, it's from a narrow angle and screws wide.

Oh dear., Vertonghen is swaying like a tree in a hurricane, and has to be helped from the pich. Sissoko replaces him, so Rose goes back to left-back.

Vertonghen is now changing his kit ... and he's back!

Schone works it out to Tagliafico, whose cross is easily caught by Lloris.

Pochettino gives an impromptu teamtalk while Vertonghen recovers. If he can't go on, it won't be all bad - Spurs don't need three centre-backs, such that he's not playing left-midfield.

Alderweireld and Vertonghen leap for a high ball with Onana, and Vertonghen whams his schnozz into the back of his mate's heed. There is blood.

Spurs have moved Vertonghen to left-back, with Rose moving into midfield to give Spurs an extra man. I'm surprised Pochettino didn't see this coming - how did he expect Ajax to play?

Spurs get it into Eriksen and Tagliafico dives in for no reason. He's booked.
