Fraser got up high on the right side and was given to get the cross into the box. Snodgrass got up highest, but his flick on found nobody in the area and the chance disappears.

That was a waste! Mulgrew gave the ball away cheaply in the centre of the pitch trying to find Fleck, but Golovin lashes his effort high and wide of the target when he should have tested Marshall.

A critic and a cynic would surely say that Scotland are playing for a draw here, but this is where they are as a national team right now. It's about very small steps under new manager Clarke.

Russia dominated the majority of the first half, but struggled to create much in front of goal. Scotland have done a good job of filling the gaps at the back. Well organised in defence.

This is a massive show of faith in Shankland from Clarke. He is currently playing for Dundee United in the Scottish Championship, but has bagged a hatful of goals already this season.

HALF TIME: Russia 0-0 Scotland. This hasn't been a vintage encounter, but Clarke will be pleased at how his team have managed to keep Russia out. They have been pretty solid at the back.

Mulgrew reads the step-over from Dzyuba and that stops a dangerous attack from Russia in stoppage time of this first half. Scotland have been relatively solid at the back until now.

There will be three minutes of stoppage time played at the end of the first half.

Half time is going to come at a good time for Scotland here. Russia are well on top right now. They are turning the screw on Clarke's side. The counter attack isn't really working that well.

Golovin denied! The space opened up for Golovin just inside the box, he got the left-footed strike away on goal, but Marshall was equal to it. It was a nice height for the Scotland goalkeeper.

McGinn is back on the pitch and looks to be fine to continue. That's a relief for Clarke. The midfielder has been in excellent form for Aston Villa over the past few weeks.
