ANOTHER BIG SAVE FROM DOMENECH! Godin rises highest from a corner kick to send a header towards the target, but the Valencia goalkeeper makes an excellent save to keep it 1-0.

JACKSON SHOULD HAVE SCORED! Griezmann plays through a wonderful ball to Jackson, who is through on goal once again. But Domenech makes the save to deny him from close range!

More poor defending from Santos! He looks so shaky alongside Mustafi, but this time Atletico Madrid can't take advantage and Valencia recover their shape at the back to remain firm.

Both Santos and Mustafi were at fault for allowing Jackson clean through on goal. It was poor defending from the pair and the Colombian made the most of the chance he was given.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Atletico Madrid 1 (31 mins - Jackson Martinez) Valencia 0. Atletico Madrid have the lead after some poor defending from the visitors! Jackson is clean through on goal and finds the bottom corner with a low finish.

The play has been a little scrappy, with quality in short supply but I get the feeling that there will be a moment of magic from someone. Maybe Griezmann? He looks lively once again.

Having said that, Atletico Madrid have only really had one chance in front of goal - and that was a header from a set piece. Not many teams come to the Vicente Calderon and go toe-to-toe with Atletico like this.

This has been a well matched contest between the two sides at the moment, but on the measure of the opening 30 minutes you would say that Atletico Madrid have edged things so far.

Rodrigo gave Valencia a certain energy in the final third, but the change shouldn't alter Valencia's shape too much. Alcacer will take his place as the focal point of the attacking line.

BIG CHANCE FOR ATLETICO MADRID! Mustafi completely loses his marker from the corner kick, with Gimenez meeting the cross with his head. However, he directs his effort well over the bar.

Valencia sub: Rodrigo OFF, Paco Alcacer ON.

This is a concern for Rodrigo. He goes down clutching his hamstring after a tussle with Gabi. It looks like Nuno will have to make a change here. Worry for the away side at the Vicente Calderon.

Mustafi looks a bit flustered by things at the moment. He was booked not that long ago and now he gives away a corner he really shouldn't have. Valencia defend the delivery though.

Griezmann lines up the freekick from the edge of the penalty area, but he can't get it over the wall and the ball spins up in the air. Valencia get players underneath it and clear the danger.
18'
Mustafi is aggrieved at the decision by the referee to award Atletico Madrid a freekick on the edge of the box. He even appeared to win the ball, and he gets a booking for his trouble too.

YELLOW CARD: Shkodran Mustafi (Valencia)

Valencia made a poor start to the season, but have since recovered. Although there are still some fans who would like Nuno to leave as manager. They have high expectations at the Mestalla.

Griezmann has essentially been given a free role by Simeone for this game tonight. He'll primarily play as the link between midfield and attack, but he roams about all over the place.
