Griezmann has essentially been given a free role by Simeone for this game tonight. He'll primarily play as the link between midfield and attack, but he roams about all over the place.
14'
Jackson is still struggling with Simeone's style of football. The Colombian has shown glimpses of what he can do, but in this system he is toiling to make any kind of impression up front.

Atletico Madrid are zipping the passes around. They don't always play this way, in fact sometimes they are pretty stodgy, but this seems to be a tactic from Diego Simeone tonight.

Griezmann did so well to turn that long Koke pass in to something. It looked like the ball would run out of play, but the Frenchman manages to reach it and force a corner off Santos.

Both these sides are strong in the centre of the pitch, but it's end-to-end at the moment. It's making for a great spectacle, although I'm not sure I can keep up this level of typing. Fatigue.

Tiago trips Santos in the centre of the pitch and Valencia have the chance to deliver a freekick into the danger area. But they don't make the most of it and Godin is on hand to make the clearing header.
8'
The tempo of this game has started at a great pace. Both sides are looking to attack at the first possible opportunity, and the pressing in the centre of the pitch has been impressive too.
7'
Of course, Domenech isn't ordinarily Valencia's first choice goalkeeper. Both Diego Alves and Matty Ryan are out with injuries, and so the third choice stopper has come in for the away team.

GREAT CHANCE FOR KOKE! The Atletico Madrid midfielder bursts into the Valencia penalty area, but his shot is saved by Domenech. And he saves on the follow-up too. Great opportunity.
5'
It's somewhat surprising to see Jackson Martinez keep his place for this game. The Colombian striker has struggled to make an impression in his first few games at Atletico Madrid.

MUSTAFI COMES CLOSE! Parejo's freekick delivery into the penalty area is good, with a flick-on finding the German at the back pos. But he can't force it home under pressure from Godin.
3'
Early signs are that Rodrigo will lead the line up front for Valencia. Although their shape could quite easily shift in to one with two up front. They could match Atletico in that regard.
2'
This is the battle for the best of the rest. The two sides finished only a point apart last season, and they are both targeting Champions League qualification this season too.

And we're under way at the Vicente Calderon! It's Atletico Madrid against Valencia in La Liga. This should be good.
