Ronaldo fluffs his lines. He made the run to the near post to get on the end of an Asensio corner kick, but he couldn't make the necessary connection and misses the ball.

Athletic Bilboa have actually started this secon half a lot better. They are seeing more of the ball. They are finding a way to keep it as well. They couldn't do that in the first half.

The problem for Athletic Bilbao is that they don't have any sort of an outlet to play the ball to when they win it back. Surely the away side will bring Aduriz off the bench shortly?

Ronaldo has looked sharp so far this evening. All he needs is the service. In fairness, the service into the Portuguese forward hasn't been bad. He's been rather unfortunate.

One wonders what sort of changes Zidane will make in this second half. Will he rest some of his key players ahead of the Bayern Munich game or will he chase the match?

On the balance of play, Real Madrid were by far the better team in the first half. The Athletic Bilbao goal came against the run of play, but they have yet to find an equaliser.

INCREDIBLE KEPA SAVE! He's made a number of good stops in this first half, but that's the best of the lost. Asensio's shot was heading for the far corner, but Kepa made the diving save. Wow!

It's quite incredible that Athletic Bilbao are stil ahead in this game. Real Madrid haven't just dominated the possession, they have created plenty of chances in front of goal. How are they losing?

Kepa has kept Athletic Bilbao ahead in this first half. Of course, he came close to signing for Real Madrid in the January transfer window, but decided to sign a new contract at San Mames.

BRILLIANT FROM VAZQUEZ! That was great from the Real Madrid attacker, who beat his man and rolled the ball to Ronaldo in the centre. But Kepa was quick off his line to smother.

It will be interesting to see how Zidane reacts if this scoreline holds well into the second half. Will he chase the game? Or will he rest key players with the game against Bayern in mind?

Carvajal seems to have recovered and is back on the pitch. He gets some warm applause from the Santiago Bernabeu crowd. They recognise the problems he had earlier this season.
