Just at the point Real Madrid looked to be taking a grip of the match, creating a number of chances of their own, Athletic Bilbao break away and score a wonderful opener. Great goal.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL! Real Madrid 0 Athletic Bilbao 1 (14 mins - Inaki Williams). Athletic have scored the opener against the balanace of play! Williams is played in behind the Real Madrid defence and he chips a cute finish over Navas. What a finish! A surprise lead for the visitors.

SO DIRECT FROM RONALDO! The Real Madrid number seven is played down the left wing on the counter. He cuts inside and takes aim on his right foot, but it flashes past the far post.

ASENSIO STRIKE! Vazquez does well to play the ball back to Asensio just inside the opposition box, but his shot is straight at Kepa in the Athletic Bilbao goal. Nice idea.

Real Madrid have taken a grip of this game early on. Asensio is seeing plenty of the ball in the attacking third. Athletic Bilbao are struggling to get out from their own half of the pitch.

RONALDO OFF THE BAR! Inches away from being another Ronaldo goal in 2018. Carvajal swings the cross into the box for the Portuguese to attack, but his powerful header smashes back off the bar.

NAVAS MAKES THE SAVE! That could have been the opener for Athletic Bilbao. Ituarraspe breaks the offside trap and shoots at goal from a tight angle, but Navas makes the stop.

It's interesting that Benzema is up front for Real Madrid this evening. The Frenchman has come under some scrutiny this season, but Ronaldo tends to play better alongside him.

Ronaldo gets his first sight of goal this evening. Asensio swings the ball into the box from the right side, but that was a difficult one for the Portuguese forward and he heads well over.

Of course, Real Madrid have no chance of catching Barcelona at the top of La Liga. They have been out of the title race for some time, but these games are crucial to keeping momentum.

The strange quirk of this match is that Real Madrid don't have another game until next week's Champions League semi final against Bayern Munich. They don't have a match this weekend.

Zidane has made a few changes to his team for this game. There's no Bale and no Casemiro for Real Madrid, but Ronaldo is back for the home side after resting at the weekend.
