You get the feeling that Valencia are right in this game now. They have been brighter at the start of the second half and have created one big chance and a half-chance.

Mina was through! What a chance that was for Valencia to equalise! The pass from Parejo over the top was fantastic, as was the touch from Mina, but one-on-one who sends his shot over.

Carvajal makes such a difference to this Real Madrid team. They have missed him at right back. One wonders what Lopetegui is thinking watching him back in the first team tonight.

That was just a little warning for Real Madrid. Yes, they are on top, but they only have a 1-0 lead and as poorly as Valencia have played, they do have individual quality.

Across the face! Valencia come forward on the counter. Mina sends a cross to the back post, but Gameiro didn't seem to anticipate the delivery and it flashes across the face. He wasn't on his toes.

Solari will want to see more cutting edge from his team in this second half. Real Madrid have played very well, but their goal was an own goal and they haven't created all that much.

Real Madrid utterly dominant in the first half. They played with great intensity and tempo. Valencia just couldn't cope with them in the opening 45 minutes. Will the pattern continue?

HALF TIME: Real Madrid 1-0 Valencia. So much better from Solari's side in this first half. They dominated for the full 45 minutes and have the lead. Valencia need to regroup at the break.

Bale has struggled in recent weeks and has taken a lot of criticism, but this has been a much better performance from the Welsh winger. Benzema has also been pretty decent.

Solari will be extremely pleased with how his team have dominated the game and haven't allowed Valencia a sniff, but he will surely want more goals in the second half.

Injuries have forced Solari's hand with regards to this team selection, but he might just have stumbled across something with this midfield trio of Ceballos, Modric and Llorente.

Real Madrid really should be looking to score a second half before the half time interval. They are well on top and Valencia are in disarray, both at the back and in the attacking third.

Now Bale has a try! Real Madrid are enjoying themselves here. This time it's Bale who directs a shot towards the Valencia goal, but just like Benzema's before his, it flashes over.

Benzema over! You could see what Benzema was trying to do. He was trying to find the far corner of the net with a curling strike, but it was just over. Neto felt comfortable just watching that.

Ceballos has been excellent in this first half. He dispossessed Parejo there. The Valencia playmaker has been targeted by the Real Madrid press. It's a strategy that has worked so far.
