Ceballos has been excellent in this first half. He dispossessed Parejo there. The Valencia playmaker has been targeted by the Real Madrid press. It's a strategy that has worked so far.

Coquelin hasn't had much of an impact on the match. He's the one charged with breaking down the Real Madrid midfield, but he has been played around so far.

That's why centre backs don't end up on the wing. For some reason, Varane found himself at the byline down the right side, but his cross was waaay too strong for anyone to meet.

All over the pitch, this is so much better from Real Madrid. Front to back, they are playing as a team unit tonight, which is certainly more than you could have said last weekend.

Easy save for Courtois! Parejo's 25-yarder takes a nick on its way through on the Real Madrid goal, but that's easy enough for the Belgian goalkeeper. That's the first shot he's faced.

Big save! Bale creates the space for a shot at the near post. It was a powerful effort from the Welsh winger, but Neto got a strong hand up to make the save. That could have been 2-0.

Tracking back! The home fans inside the Santiago Bernabeu enjoyed that! Benzema tracks all the way back to make the tackle on Parejo, who was just getting into shooting range.

He has been shaky in recent weeks, but Ramos has been very effective in the opening 30 minutes of this match. He's snuffing out all counter attacks Valencia are mounting.

Modric is playing as the furthest forward of the Real Madrid midfield three and that is allowing him to concentrate on linking up the midfield with the attack. Working well so far.

The energy of this Real Madrid midfield compared to the one we have seen in recent weeks is remarkable. Does Kroos have something to worry about when he returns from injury?

This hasn't been a good performance from Valencia so far. Marcelino won't be pleased with what he has seen so far. They have been unable to work the ball out of their own half.

Courtois has been picked by Solari again for this match. While Lopetegui preferred to rotate between the Belgian and Navas, the new manager has stuck with Courtois so far.

Punch clear! Bale chucks a long throw into the opposition penalty area. Neto comes off his line to punch and gets the clearance away. Will that be a tactic for Real with Solari in charge?

And now Gaya is shown a yellow card for fouling Vazquez. That's three Valencia players booked in the opening 20 minutes.

Benzema could use a goal this evening. The Frenchman has fared rather better under Solari than he did under Lopetegui, but he still needs to show more of a cutting edge in front of goal.
