HALF TIME: Germany 0-0 Algeria. The two sides go into the break level, but Algeria will be disappointed that they are not in the lead. Germany have been rattled in this first half. They've got some thinking to do.

Indeed, Germany are playing a little better now but they're being restricted to long range efforts as they struggle to get in behind this well disciplned Algerian defence.

Kroos takes a shot from the best part of 25 yards but his effort flashes just over the angle of crossbar and post of M'Bohli's goal. Decent effort but the keeper knew it was going over.

For the first time tonight Germany have a grip of this game and are looking for the breakthrough before the half time whistle. Although Algeria are still hunting down the ball impressively.

M'Bohli makes a superb double save! The Algerian keeper actually made a mess of the initial shot, even though it bounced right at his feet, but he was up in a flash to smother the close range shot from Gotze.

Algeria come close to finding the net! Mostefa's strike from 25 yards picks up a wicked deflection on its way through to goal, with Neuer completely wrong-footed. But the ball dribbles wide of the target.

The tempo of this game has dropped in the last 10 minutes or so, meaning Germany are enjoying more of the ball in the centre of midfield. Algeria come forward but they find more bodies in front of them.

Ozil takes control of the ball 30 yards and smashes a shot towards goal, with the effort bouncing in front of the keeper. But Muller miscontrols the rebound and Algeria have a goal kick.

Germany are just starting to get a grip of this game, but Algeria still look very dangerous on the counter attack. They have pace to burn and Boateng and Mertesacker can't cope with it.

Muller gets his first sight of goal this evening. Mustafi drives a wicke cross into the box, with the Bayern Munich attacker throwing himself at it to get his head on the ball. But he glances it wide of the target.

Feghouli places the ball down and lines up the freekick from 20 yards, but the Valencia midfielder puts far too much weight on his shot and it sails well over the crossbar.

As has happened so often over the course of this game, a German mistake in midfield sparks an Algerian counter attack, with a foul being committed on the edge of the German box.

Mustafi is still playing very high up on the right side, but too often he's being caught out of position, allowing Algeria to hit them hard on the counter attack. It's a very risky ploy from Low, and it's not working.

Their lack of proper fullbacks is really hurting Germany. When Mertesacker and Boateng get the ball they have nobody to play it to other than the central midfielders, who Algeria are pressing high on.

Mertesacker's mistake allows Slimani in behind the German defence, but once again Neuer comes off his line to make the slide challenge and clear the danger. Mertesacker thanks his keeper.

I know that previous message makes me out to be some sort of dinosaur, but sometimes I think Germany over complicate their game. Clear positions always help, no matter what team.
