I know that previous message makes me out to be some sort of dinosaur, but sometimes I think Germany over complicate their game. Clear positions always help, no matter what team.

Germany's system is very fluid and interchangeable, but to me it looks like they're lacking structure. There's so much movement that it doesn't really look like anyone is where they're supposed to be.

Germany still look very dodgy at the back with the ball at their feet. Algeria are pressing them high up the pitch but Boateng and Mertesacker just don't want possession at the moment.

M'Bohli has to tip a cross from Ozil over his own bar. Germany were driving at the Algerian defence through Muller, but the delivery from the Arsenal man was disappointing. Needed to be better.

Gotze has hardly seen the ball in these opening 20 minutes or so, and when he has had possession he's been wasteful with it. He's dropping deeper and deeper, but isn't getting any more effective.

Algeria come forward again, but this time Soudani and Ghoulam over play it slightly and the ball drifts out of play. But the confidence is flowing through Halilhodzic's side.

Germany are rattled here. Algeria are hitting them hard on the attack, and the Germans' passing game has lost its rythym. Low is out on the touchline, looking slightly concerned. Algeria are well on top.

Another great chance for Algeria! This time it's the left back Ghoulam who provides the outlet on the overlap, sprinting into a one-on-one situation with Neuer, but from a tight angle he shoots across goal and wide!

Algeria have the ball in the net following a wonderful diving header by Feghouli! But the flag is up for offside, and indeed the player was in an offside position when the cross was played into the box.

Germany look suspect at the back. Their lack of quality fullbacks is causing them real problems, with Taider and Soudani giving Algeria a real threat in the wide areas.

Another good chance for Algeria! Feghouli does brilliantly to jink past the tackle of Boateng and make the by-line. He has Soudani to square the ball back to, but he decides to shoot himself from a tight angle and blasts over! Oh dear.

Schweinsteiger lines up a shot with his left foot, striking the ball with some amount of power and forcing M'Bohli into a save, with the Algerian keeper claiming it at the second attempt.

The North Africans have started very well here, pressing high on the German defence and forcing them to play the ball long, by-passing their engine in the centre of midfield. It's a tactic that's working right now.

Algeria look like absolute lightning on the counter attack. There isn't much pace in that Germany backline and Algeria have it in abundance up front. That is where the threat lies.

Slimani comes close to putting Algeria ahead! The ball is played in behind the Germany back four, which is camped on the halfway line, for Slimani to run onto. Neuer comes 40 yards off his line, and for a moment it looks like he's rounded the keeper, but he makes a recovery tackle in the nick of time!

Mustafi is playing for Germany on the left side of the defence, in what is just his second start for the national team and his first competitive start. Will he be able to step up to the task?
7'
It loos like Kroos will play on the left side of the midfield trio, with Gotze and Muller playing further up the pitch and Lahm the pivot in the centre of the pitch. It's a formation that works for Bayern Munich.
