So what happens here is that Sane, on the touchline, tries to keep the ball in play but can only find Calvert-Lewin; he finds Holgate to whom Kompany is drawn for no reason and now in space, accepts the return. He then delays the cross beautifully, turning inside to leave Kompany sliding off like a toboggan going down the wrong hill and crosses low for Rooney who, ignored by Stones, allows the ball across his body and sidefoots firmly under Ederson; the shot catches his undercarriage, clips the post, and bounces home.

City are turning it up now, and Aguero, given time, lifts a lovely pass with the outside of his right foot for Silva, free to his left; Keane is enjoying a reverie all of his own. Silva controls, sets, and slams a drive off the base of the near post!

Oh this is wonderful defending from Jagielka! De Bruyne finds himself in hectares, so plays in Aguero at inside-right. He skates into the box and feints to shoot, prompting Jagielka to slides into a block that isn't there. But with Aguero moving around him instead of shooting or passing, he contrives to tackle from the prone position. Heroic behaviour.

Vincent Kompany should wear number 2.

Maybe Koeman's plan is for Everton to stay at 0-0 or eve 1-0 for an hour, then get Sugurdsson on and hope for a set-piece.

Clever defending from Jagielka, buffeting Aguero when he gets in behind after Silva's fine pass, but not hard enough to cause a scene. As such, the angle to shoot is lost and eventually Everton work the ball clear.

This is nonsense.

Otamendi finds himself in possession after De Bruyne squares to him and with no pressure, he clops forward before shooting form 25 yards. Diving right, Pickford parries back into danger, but he gets up sharply to narrow Aguero's angle and forcing him to try a lob, which Jagielka heads over the top. The corner comes to nowt.

Davies gets on the ball not far from the City box, and with few options knocks in behind Otamendi and pegs after it, hurling himself over Otamendi's leg. He's booked for diving, which was probably but not definitely fair.

Lovely from City, Jesus turning Gueye and finding De Bruyne on the left. Immediately, he slides infield for the onrushing Silva, and Keane sells himself as if on purpose; the ball inside Holgate for Aguero is on. And Silva plays it, of course, but Holgate reads the situation perfectly, his body-shape perfect to make the interception.

City need to get Silva and Sane into the game. At the moment, they're having a lot of the ball without involving their best players.

Rooney directs a excellent long pass from centre to right, finding Calvert-Lewin, and it comes back to Gueye who finds Rooney again; his pass is deflected behind for a corner, and of course he takes it. I don't get that - surely he's best in the box - but he picks out Williams who, in trying to generate the necessary pace, heads wide.

Pickford clips out of his hands for Calvert-Lewin, who leaps to control - beautifully - on his chest. He moves towards the box, holding the ball up well, then lays back for Davies, who fired wide. Bit better from Everton, but still a pot-shot - they've not mustered a single dangerous move, nor got met into the box.

It's remarkable in a way, the cash Everton have spent, to have a team with so little goal-threat.

Not much going on here.

The corner is half cleared, arriving at the feet of Jesus 30 yards out. Encouraged by the club, he flings his body into a shot, the ball whooshing high over the bar.

Jesus and De Bruyne combine at inside-left, and when the former crosses, Williams hoofs up into the air. City keep them pinned back, finding Aguero on the right of the box, and he drives a shot against Gueye which is deflected behind.
