NADAL 6-3 5-7 7-6 6-7 6-4 DIMITROV: GAME, SET, MATCH! Nadal is through to face Roger Federer after this epic, epic encounter. Dimitrov staves off two match points but can’t save a third as he fires a backhand long. One of the all-time great matches and sad that there had to be a loser. WHAT A MATCH!

NADAL 6-3 5-7 7-6 6-7 5-4 DIMITROV: BREAK! Now Nadal gains the initiative with a backhand that catches the line and that pressure causes Dimitrov to double fault at a critical time. It’s blow for blow stuff as Dimitrov gets back into the game with some fearless hitting but then is unfortunate to concede break point as a forehand catches the tape and flies just long. And the Spaniard breaks with backhand into the corner. He will serve for the match!

NADAL 6-3 5-7 7-6 6-7 4-4 DIMITROV: HUGE HOLD NADAL! Is Nadal getting edgy? He opens with two unforced errors to fall 0-30 behind but lets out a ‘vamos!’ as Dimitrov drifts a backhand slice long. Tremendous courage from Dimitrov wins him two huge break points with an overhead smash but, Rafa being Rafa, huge hitting under pressure pulls him back from the brink and he digs out a massive hold.

NADAL 6-3 5-7 7-6 6-7 3-4 DIMITROV: Dimitrov kicks off the game with ace number 20 but then nets a backhand on the stretch. The Bulgarian fights fire with fire on the forehand wing, winning one but missing another. It’s no surprise that yet another game between these battlers goes to deuce but it’s Dimitrov who keeps his nose in front with a big forehand winner.

NADAL 6-3 5-7 7-6 6-7 3-3 DIMITROV: A mercifully quick hold for Rafa. He races to 40-0 with big serving and holds to love.

NADAL 6-3 5-7 7-6 6-7 2-3 DIMITROV: Another clenched fist from Dimitrov follows an overhead put away before he wins a mercifully cheap point with an ace. Rafa isn’t going away and earns a break point as Dimitrov nets a backhand, a rare error on that flank. But it’s the Bulgarian who hangs tough again, holding with an overhead. Brilliant stuff!

NADAL 6-3 5-7 7-6 6-7 2-2 DIMITROV: Some spectators are late back to their seats carrying beers. Thirsty work this, but you don’t want to miss any of it! Nadal still having to pull out some of his best tennis from yesteryear to hang with ‘Baby Fed’. Unsurprisingly, it’s another tight game but one that Nadal clings onto, to 30. Impossible to call now.
