NADAL 6-3 5-7 5-5 DIMITROV: Nadal finishes off another tough opening point with a tricky volley at the net and keeps a great length on his ground strokes to earn a couple of game points. A typical whipped forehand levels things up as we move into the crucial phase of the set.

NADAL 6-3 5-7 4-5 DIMITROV: Really fluid shot making from Dimitrov, a sixth backhand winner earning two more break points and he moves to within a set of a 2-1 lead as Nadal hits the ball long. Shock on?

NADAL 6-3 5-7 4-4 DIMITROV: Dimitrov’s defence really has been a feature of this match but it’s not quite good enough in this game as Nadal grabs a vital hold to love with an ace.

NADAL 6-3 5-7 3-3 DIMITROV: BREAK! Nadal opens up with his third double fault but Dimitrov can’t capitalise, hitting long on a point he’s seemingly in control of. The Spaniard hits a backhand narrowly wide and repeats the dose to concede two break back points. He saves the first after another punishing point and the second with a backhand volley into open space but is furious at then netting a mid-court forehand. A rare serve and volley play saves a third break point but he can’t save the fourth as Dimitrov breaks straight back.

NADAL 6-3 5-7 3-2 DIMITROV: BREAK! Dimitrov opens with an ace but follows up with a couple of loose unforced errors. He’s furious and urges more of himself, a neat volley restoring parity in the game. But another unforced error gifts Nadal a break point and the Bulgarian hits long to concede the break. Momentum shift?

NADAL 6-3 5-7 2-2 DIMITROV: Dimitrov really warming to the task now, nailing a forehand up the line to bring a pained expression to the Nadal face. The Spaniard responds with a forehand winner of his own and a winning volley brings the first spinning fist pump that we know and love. A clean backhand winner brings a clenched fist from Dimitrov before Nadal holds on after another spectacular rally. Great match now!
